FAQs

What is the health benefit of olive oil?

Studies show that Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) has a wide range of health benefits, particularly when it comes to cardiovascular health, anti-aging, inflammation, and weight control.

The mono-unsaturated fatty acids (i.e. oleic acid) and phenolic compounds (natural antioxidants) found in EVOO can help reduce the risk of stiff or blocked arties, lower bad cholesterol (LDL) while increasing good cholesterol (HDL), help people with Type 2 diabetes by reducing blood levels of glucose, remove free radicals that can damage cells that leads to aging, and has even shown promise in reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

Does it really matter what type of olive oil you cook with?

Just like you wouldn't cook with bad wine, you shouldn’t cook with bad olive oil! All of the olive oil that you can find at The Market comes from small estates across the globe. Each of these estates have the highest standards – the olives are picked at just the right time (not too ripe or big) and then immediately pressed, extracted, and bottled ensuring the best taste and the highest nutritional value.

What’s the proper way to cook with olive oil?

You can cook with olive oil the same way you would any other oil. Some people say you can’t cook on high heat with olive oil, but that is just a myth. In fact, its smoke point is high (410 degrees F), which means it can hold up to high cooking temperatures. No matter how you cook with it, we always recommend adding a little drizzle on top just when you are done.

What does "extra virgin" actually mean?

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is made by simply crushing the olives and extracting their juices without any chemicals or refinements. At The Market we sell Ultra Premium (UP) Extra Virgin Olive Oil, the finest type of olive oil in the world. In order to qualify for the UP grade, the extra virgin olive oil must meet or exceed a comprehensive set of requirements including production, storage, chemistry, and taste.

How long does Olive Oil last?

Like most perishable foods, the quality and health benefits will decrease with time. Properly stored, a bottle can last up to 18-24 months from harvest date, but we recommend 14 months. You can find the harvest date on the back of all of our olive oils—this is not the case with many big brand bottles.

What is the best way to store my Olive Oil?

If you’re like most people, your olive oil is probably out in the open, sitting next to the stove. This is the worst place to store olive oil! To keep your olive oil tasting great, you want to keep in a cool, dark environment (for example, inside the back of a pantry).

Can I order food from the restaurant to go?

Anything on the menu is available for take-out and you can pick it up in The Market. But when the restaurant is busy, so is the kitchen. Since everything is made fresh, it could take up to an hour. Your best bet is to call ahead – or come in and check out refrigerator case stocked delicious dishes you can heat up at home.

Does The Market offer catering?

We can prepare family-sized hot portions of most of our dishes that you can pick up. At this time, we don’t offer delivery or service. Please note: On busy holidays like Christmas, the platters will be prepared and refrigerated – we will give you instructions on how to properly heat.
